ISECON 2005 Conference Blog

Apr 18 2006: A better version of the ISECON Proceedings CDROM is online at http://isedj.org/isecon/ including nearly all full papers. Don Colton, Proceedings Editor, ISECON 2005

Oct 5: Conference Wireless will be 802.11b (11Mb) and 802.11g (54Mb). SSID is "ISECON". Don Colton, Chair, ISECON 2005

Oct 4: A preliminary version of the ISECON Proceedings CDROM is online at http://isedj.org/isecon.2005/ (changed later to http://isedj.org/isecon/) including nearly all full papers in a preliminary form. Don Colton, Chair, ISECON 2005

Oct 4: We are bringing in a T1 line for Internet from Thursday noon until Saturday night. Access will be by WiFi, or possibly by cat5 cable for those without wireless. So, email junkies, bring your laptops and we will give you access to the Internet. You should not need to pay the daily rate of $9.99 for Internet in your room if you are willing to wander down to the conference area. Don Colton, Chair, ISECON 2005

Sep 30: Experience Columbus is running a 50% off admission on several attractions in the area on the weekend of Oct 7-10, namely Experience Columbus Day. Some highlights include: * Columbus Museum of Art Columbus Zoo and Aquarium COSI Columbus * there are also many AAA discounts. You can print out the card as a PDF which is on the website. To save on ink, you can just drop by a nearby AAA. They have nicely printed cards at the front counter for free. Jens Liegle, Registrar, ISECON 2005

Sep 30: Grid and Abstracts have been updated to include nearly everything. If you notice any typos or other errors, let me know. Don Colton, Chair, ISECON 2005

Sep 28: PRESENTERS can expect: screen, projector, laptop running MS Windows, PowerPoint, Adobe Acrobat (for PDF), USB for flash drive. PRESENTERS should NOT expect: live Internet, 3.5 inch floppy drive, sound system, microphone, transparency projector. Please bring PowerPoint presentations on flash drive or CDROM. Don Colton, Chair, ISECON 2005

Sep 28: Conference Menu is online. Check the Conference Schedule (html grid). Guest passes are available for the lunches and the reception for a nominal price. Don Colton, Chair, ISECON 2005

Sep 23: Transportation to and from the airport (five miles away) is provided by "Urban Express." The one way fare is $12. A cab costs about $18, but two can share a cab making the fare $9 per person plus tip.

Sep 23: Valet parking at the hotel is $21 per day. You can self-park at the City Center indoor lot, which is connected to the hotel, for $9 per day on weekdays and only $3 per day during the weekend.

Sep 22: Semi-final schedule is available for review and download. Papers are still moving around a bit, but the overall schedule is final. Abstracts are also available (with the same caveats on schedule). See the links above. Don Colton, Chair, ISECON 2005

Sep 20: Today is the deadline for hotel registration at the conference rate (it ends at midnight Eastern), and the deadline for the early-bird rate for conference registration. Yesterday our hotel room block was full, but more rooms have been added; if you were unable to book a room at the conference rate, or booked at a higher rate, call the hotel to correct it. Don Colton, Chair, ISECON 2005

Sep 15: Correction: WiFi in common areas is not free. But if you get WiFi with your room, you can use it in the common areas. Don Colton, Chair, ISECON 2005

Sep 15: Dixieland Band from Athens Ohio will play Jazz at our Friday evening reception. Don Colton, Chair, ISECON 2005

Sep 15: PAPERS SERVER IS BACK. Reviewers! Please submit the last round of paper reviews as soon as possible, so the last round of authors can be notified, so their papers can be scheduled, etc, etc. Don Colton, Chair, ISECON 2005

Sep 13: PAPERS SERVER DOWN. The last round of paper reviews was to be done Sep 15, but Hurricane Ophelia has caused the shutdown of our Paper reviewing servers at the University of North Carolina Wilmington (and indeed the whole university) starting noon today (ET) probaby for at least 48 hours. We continue to be impressed with Mother Nature, and will make appropriate deadline adjustments on a case by case basis. We will continue to do our best to get accept/reject word out for the last round of papers as quickly as we can. For safety, accepted papers are also backed up in Hawaii. Don Colton, Chair, ISECON 2005

Sep 12: Early bird deadline has been changed to Sep 20. The hotel conference rate registration deadline is also Sep 20. The last round of paper reviews should be done Sep 15, thus allowing those people a few days of breathing room before the early bird deadline. Don Colton, Chair, ISECON 2005

Sep 10: Hotel Registration is open. Register at the hotel before Sep 20 by calling 800-233-1234. Specify the "Hyatt on Capital Square" in Columbus, Ohio. Ask for the "ISECON" rate ($119 for Wed, Thu, Sun; $109 Fri, Sat). Don Colton, Chair, ISECON 2005

Sep 6: The ISECON organizing committee is pleased to announce a Student Rate for conference attendance. Don Colton, Chair, ISECON 2005

Sep 3: ISECON 2005 will be held in Columbus, Ohio, at the four-star Hyatt on Capital Square (not to be confused with the Columbus Hyatt Regency), Oct 6-9. The conference room rate will be $119 plus taxes per night for reservations made before Sep 21 (probably, pending a signed contract early next week). We have WiFi in the common areas, and Internet in guest rooms for $9.95/day, but no Internet in the breakout sessions. Nearby parking is $9/day. Airport is CMH (Columbus Ohio). Airport-to-hotel shuttle is $9 one way. Don Colton, Chair, ISECON 2005

Sep 2: The ISECON organizing committee has approved an alternate site in Ohio, far from hurricanes, for the same weekend, October 6-9. The word we get from most airlines is that tickets can be exchanged with little or no penalty. We are working with the selected hotel to finalize room rates and meeting space. Negotiations should be completed over this weekend. Watch this space for updates. Don Colton, Chair, ISECON 2005

Aug 31: The ISECON organizing committee is looking at alternate venues in the US and dates in the October/November time frame. Don Colton, Chair, ISECON 2005

Aug 30: The ISECON organizing committee is watching carefully the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina that swept through the New Orleans area on August 29. There is ongoing consideration to (a) move ahead as planned, (b) relocate nearby, (c) relocate farther away, or (d) simply publish the proceedings but not hold the sessions. More information will be available over the next few days, and a decision can probably be made at that time. We will certainly make a final decision several days before the Sep 12 (changed to Sep 20) deadline for earlybird conference registration and conference-rate hotel bookings. In the mean time, we appreciate your patience and we know that you join us in praying for the safety of those impacted by the storm and for the quick recovery of the entire area. Thanks! Don Colton, Chair, ISECON 2005
